Golf is a Lifetime Sport.

November 22nd, 2015 | Posted by Deborah in Cool Tips - (Comments Off on Golf is a Lifetime Sport.)

Why Girls Should Golf

Sure wish my mom and dad would have encouraged me to take up golf as a young girl. As with any sport, the younger you take it up (wasn’t Tiger 3????) the easier it is to learn. I wanted to share this article by Abbey Algiers.

“With all of the options available for sports—soccer, basketball, swimming, gymnastics, volleyball, ice skating, track, cross country—the question “why golf?” may surely come up as kids choose their activities. I know it did for me. As a high school freshman, I begged my dad to let me go out for the swim team instead of golf. I was looking for a “real sport” I told him.

My dad’s response went something like this: “You want to go out for a real sport like swimming? Really? What are you going to do with swimming in the future . . . go on a date with someone and say “hey, baby, let’s swim around this lake?’ No. You’re going to golf. You’re going to pick a lifetime sport.”

Now, he wasn’t just pushing golf so I could go on dates, but I’m so glad he did make that point. He was right. Golf turned out to be a great, social asset for me in many areas of my life, including dating. Heck, I taught my husband how to golf while we were dating. Now, not only do my husband and I golf together, we also golf with my mom and dad. That’s a little more fun than all of us jumping in a lake for a swim.

True, I could’ve gone out for swimming and learned how to golf later in life. But, the truth of the matter is, the older we get, the less time we have to devote to learning something as complex and as time-consuming as golf. A friend of mine has four kids—all of them involved in about a million activities (sadly, none golf, but I’m working on it). Her husband’s passion is golf. Unfortunately, she doesn’t golf and simply doesn’t have the time to devote to learn it, much less get comfortable enough to really play the game. Another friend of mine is a pharmaceutical rep whose company often asks her to play on outings. Not only are these chances to play gorgeous courses and get away from the office, they are also great networking opportunities. But guess what? My friend was a swimmer in high school and doesn’t golf.

The bottom line is, golf is a social, lifetime sport that offers countless chances for adults to network and golf with friends, partners, and family. It helps to know the game—the rules, clubs, and mechanics of the sport—coming into adulthood instead of picking it up and trying to squeeze it in between work, family, and other responsibilities.

As you and your child are considering activities, give the many benefits of golf a thought:

The early years of golf.
Let’s face it, learning to golf isn’t easy. It’s much easier to make golf mistakes and learn from them as a child than as an adult. Golf is fun but at the start but can be challenging. If people start playing as kids, they will work through that awkward golfer phase much faster than they would as an adult.

The morality of golf.
Remember that as your expose your kids to golf, you’re exposing them to valuable lessons in honesty, respect, and integrity. Yes, you’re teaching them golf, but you’re also teaching them the rules of life.

Patience and persistence in golf.
True, golf can be frustrating. But along the way, your child will pick up good character traits and learn what dedication to a sport can deliver. Unlike other sports that can easily wind a kid up, golf encourages taking time to be thoughtful and steady. Instead of just doing, young golfers learn to think and get to know themselves both inside and out.

Finally, consider golf as an investment in your present and future relationship with your child. Not all sports offer you the chance to actually get out there and play the game with your child for years to come. Even if they don’t realize it now, someday they’ll look back and thank you for the exposure to golf and the time you spent with them. They’ll also be the ones setting up a tee time so you can enjoy a day together on the course, which, I have to say, is so much better than swimming around a lake.”

Bring on the Heat

August 6th, 2015 | Posted by Deborah in Cool Tips - (Comments Off on Bring on the Heat)

Drink more water

Summer is here and we are all looking for ways to stay cool and also stay healthy. I would like to share an article that I just read about drinking more water and it’s benefits. Quote is from One Good Thing.

Not EVERYONE requires exactly eight 8-ounce glasses of water every day. The Institute of Medicine has determined that an adequate intake (AI) for men is roughly 3 liters (about 13 cups) of total beverages a day. The AI for women is 2.2 liters (about 9 cups) of total beverages a day.

So the traditional rule should really be stated as: “Drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of fluid a day,” because all fluids count toward your daily total.

But there’s no doubt that drinking WATER is important to our overall health and well-being. Water helps to flush toxins and waste products from our bodies. It aids our digestion and “keep us regular”. Drinking water prevents dehydration, and It helps us look better too. Water is proven to help with weight loss and helps hydrates the skin which in turn reduces the signs of aging.

There is no denying that your body feels happier and healthier when you consume enough water.

So this summer stay cool, drink plenty of water and keep an extra bottle in a Cool-it Caddy bag to keep it nice and cool. Just grab a little ‘freeze and go’ Cool-it Caddy to take with you anywhere to keep your heat sensitive items (such as lip balms, sunscreen, meds, and WATER!) icy cool and fresh. Cool-itCaddy.com

Williams one win away from “Serena Slam”.

July 9th, 2015 | Posted by Deborah in Cool Tips - (Comments Off on Williams one win away from “Serena Slam”.)

Serena beats Sharapova for 17th straight time in Wimbledon semifinals

I love tennis and have been following Wimbledon by taping and watching when I can. I have seen some great matches this year and thought I would capture a bit of it in my blog. What really stands out is the dominance of Serena. Can anyone stop her? Not Maria Sharapova! Serena is only one win away from a “Serena Slam”! Here is a quote from Tennis.com about their match today.

Five women have won four consecutive Grand Slam tournaments - and Williams already is among that group, having done it from 2002-03. Only three have pulled off a true Grand Slam, winning all four majors in a single season; Steffi Graf was the last, in 1988.

If Williams can beat Muguruza, the 33-year-old American would head to the U.S. Open in August with a shot at that feat.

Under a cloudless sky at Centre Court on Thursday, it was quickly clear Williams’ semifinal wouldn’t last long. At age 17, Sharapova beat Williams twice in 2004, including in the Wimbledon final - and hasn’t defeated her since.

In the opening game, Sharapova double-faulted three times and got broken. More ominously, the first four points that lasted at least six strokes ended with errors by Sharapova. If she couldn’t serve well, and couldn’t stay with Williams once the ball was in play, Sharapova was in trouble.

Asked what she needs to do to be competitive against Williams, Sharapova responded: ”A lot more than I’m doing.”

Enjoy the finals! When you hit the courts, don’t forget to take along your Cool-it Caddy to keep all your heat sensitive items icy cool! Cool-itCaddy

Warm Weather Beauty Essentials

Cool-it Caddy in the news!

Article from Manhattan with a Twist:

by

Spring has sprung and summer is just around the corner. With the arrival of warm weather comes a necessary change in your beauty regime. From skincare to hair care, all the way to make-up, it’s important to cater to the seasons and look your absolute best. We’ve got the products to help you get there!

revitalash-brow-gel

Bold brows are showing no signs of going out of style anytime soon and thanks to Cara Delevigne, women everywhere are doing whatever they can to enhance their eyebrows. Forget pesky pencils and powders, RevitaLash Cosmetics has the solution to your brow problems. Their Hi-Def Tinted Brow Gel ($32) not only fills in any sparse or thin areas in your eyebrows, but also helps to control, enhance and condition those sometimes unruly brows of yours. Boldly defining the brows, keeping them in place and making them look au natural, this hot item is our new favorite staple in our make-up bag.

Spring is all about shimmer and shine. Lucky for us, Milani’s Fierce Foil Lipgloss gives lips a serious new way to pucker up. Formulated with multidimensional pearlescent that captures light, the lipgloss gives lips a pop of color and dazzling shimmer. The unique formula softens, smoothes and shines your lips, making your lips not only look delicious, but smell delicious, as well! The collection comes in six flattering colors, all of which are named after chic Italian cities. The glosses are available for a limited time for $4.99 at CVS.

Everyone knows that too much heat and styling can damage your hair and with the warm, sunny skies, more and more of us are trying to look our best. I.C.O.N.‘s India 24k Richly Exotic Masque ($40.50) works to detangle and condition your hair with restorative and hydrating Moringa, Argan, amber, coconut and olive fruit tree oils. Its use of antioxidants strengthens the hair to make it shiny and smooth and heal any damage done by styling and heat. Unlike other hair masques, this one really works wonders and you can feel the change immediately.

When the weather starts getting warm, the hair starts getting big. Many of us use hair straighteners or curlers to tame our frizzy hair in the spring and summer seasons, and I don’t know about you, but I’ve fallen prey to the accidental burn quite a few times. First Degree Multi-Symptom Burn Cream and Pain Relief Burn Spray are two products that work hand in hand with one another. The cream treats epidermal burns to soothe, prevent infection and reduce the appearance of scars. The spray provides the highest level of pain relief and together, they can solve those pesky burn problems in a heartbeat.

There’s a song about summer lovin’ for a reason. If you’re looking for a summer romance, we suggest you kick start it with 0.2 Fragrance ($120/100mL, $80/50mL, $40/7.5mL), a unisex scent that is designed to evoke excitement and inspiration. Developed by Holly Riddel, the scent was created based off of the statistic that states the love at first sight only takes a fraction of a second. The scent combines Italian bergamot and spearmint to create an enchanting and alluring smell, sure to capture the attention of many. Get spritzing!

With the sun out in full force, it’s important to keep your skin hydrated and looking its best. Eraclea is a skincare company with a line of products that utilize the patented HylaSponge System, which basically acts as a second skin to deliver hyaluronic acid to both hydrate and moisturize the skin. This system, along with antioxidants, vitamins, peptides and botanicals, come together to create a line of products that will keep your skin looking younger and fresher. Their latest products, which launched this spring, include the detox-oxygenating reaffirming mask ($60), multi-action reaffirming face serum ($90), and eye contour reaffirming serum ($65). These new products were developed using cellusomes of Eryngium, a sea holly plant, which provides the ultimate hydration to the skin.

Keep free of germs with Essenza ($3.99-$4.99), a line of luxurious hand soaps that keep your hands soft and smooth (and perfect to hold) with essential oils, shea butter and aloe. Not only do they clean and pamper your hands, but they also come in a range a delicious smelling scents, including rosemary mint, pear glace, South Pacific waters, mango agave and more. Best of all, they are easy to use with hand pumps and are extremely affordable!

All ladies know that the heat of the sun can melt a popsicle in a heartbeat. But since make-up is quite a bit pricier than a popsicle, it’s a damn shame when traveling and your make-up gets ruined. Enter the Cool-It Caddy ($24.95-$29.95)! This line of compact cases and carriers have a built in coolant system to ensure your make-up stays intact, even when lounging at the beach. Coming in a range of styles and designs, the Cool-It Caddy is a perfect addition to any beauty babe’s must-haves this spring and summer. And no need to restrict your caddy to just carrying make-up, the bags can be used to keep sunscreens, snacks and drinks cool, too!

Those of us who don’t clean our make-up brushes on the regular can become victim to unsightly blemishes. Keep you skin clear and your brushes in tip-top shape with Japonesque‘s Solid Brush Cleanser ($20). The cleanser gives you two in one action, not only removing bacteria and make-up buildup from your brush, but also deep conditioning the bristles, as well. Using gentle goat milk and a freshly scent formula, this cleanser is easy to use and mess-free. Not only is it effective, but you can easily take it with you wherever you travel this summer.

Sunscreen Benefits and How to Protect It

April 13th, 2015 | Posted by Deborah in Cool Tips - (Comments Off on Sunscreen Benefits and How to Protect It)

5 Reasons You Should Always Wear It

I am a true believer in the benefits of sunscreen. I know that high temperatures can cause the ultraviolet absorbing chemicals like avobenzone and oxybenzone to degrade right in the bottle. When you apply a degraded sunscreen to your skin, you are not getting the SPF indicated on the bottle and in fact might be applying nothing more than a thick white moisturizer. A great and easy way to carry your sunscreen (as well as other heat sensitive items like a chapstick or medications) with you on that warm weather outing is to use a ‘freeze and go’ Cool-it Caddy. Simply pop it into a freezer until frozen….next step? Go play! Small enough to fit into your purse, tote, backpack, golf bag or tennis bag. Your sunscreen is protected from breaking down and no longer being effective.

Now to the 5 reasons you should always wear sunscreen( taken from an article in By ):

1. The ozone layer is depleting and your body needs shielding from harmful rays.

2. Skin cancer rates are on the rise and sunscreen has been proven to decrease the development of skin cancer.

3. It helps to prevent facial brown spots and skin discolorations.

4. It also helps to reduce the appearance of facial red veins and blotchiness.

5. It slows down the development of wrinkled, premature aging skin.

Hope this will convince you to always wear sunscreen and pack your Cool-it Caddy to protect it!

Meds Need to be Kept Cool.

April 3rd, 2015 | Posted by Deborah in Cool Tips - (Comments Off on Meds Need to be Kept Cool.)

Warm weather is upon us.

  • by Kristina Fiore
    Staff Writer, MedPage Today

With heavy heat suffocating much of the country, physicians aren’t just warning patients to keep themselves cool — they also want patients to prevent their medications from overheating.

Temperatures above 86 degrees Fahrenheit can render some medications useless, according to Robert Glatter, MD, an emergency medicine physician at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York.

“I’ve noticed an increase in the number of ED visits related to mental illness in the recent heatwave,” Glatter told MedPage Today, noting that most complaints have been related to anxiety or mood swings.

He said the effects could be tied to improper storage of medications in the heat, which may affect the bioavailability of the active agents in these drugs. The U.S. Pharmacopeia, a medication standards agency, states that drugs generally should be stored at room temperature — between 68 and 77 degrees Fahrenheit — with only brief excursions to temps as low as 59 degrees or as high as 86 degrees.

Above or below that, there’s no guarantee medications will work, the agency says.

Add to decreased efficacy the common problem of dehydration on high-heat days, and that makes for packed ED departments, Glatter said.

He said patients should be sure to keep their prescriptions with them in cool places, paying particular mind to where they’re stored during travel. That means keeping medications in pockets or purses when luggage gets tossed into cargo holds that might overheat, he said.

The perfect way to travel with your meds is by using a Cool-it Caddy ‘freeze and go’ bag. Insulated and
containing a built in coolant you can safely travel in warm weather. Please do monitor the internal temperature carefully. Purchase at Cool-itcaddy.com. Prices are from $19.95-$29.95. Cool-itCaddy
